The sages teach us to leave a commemorative space in one’s home which
continually recalls the destruction of the Temple in Jerusalem. This is referred to
as “Zecher L’churban.” Although it is ideal for the Zecher L’churban to consist of
an unpainted box on the wall, there are a number of different customs that have
evolved as well. Some have the custom to write “Zecher L’churban” or “Jerusalem”
along an amah square (40 cm. by 40 cm.) of their wall, while others choose to
hang a picture.
The artist created a unique piece depicting this concept. A 40x40cm. piece of
Jerusalem stone is carved with the entire text of the Talmud page that teaches
us the laws of “Zecher L’churban.” The sentence “If I forget thee, O Jerusalem,”
was highlighted.
Each piece signed by the artist.
